Imagine growing up knowing that one of your parents was a well-known superhero. Imagine idolizing this individual as you matured, collecting every article and newspaper clipping you could get your hands on. Continue imagining this scenario with this thought in mind: that superhero parent has never truly acknowledged your existence. Did your feelings just shift a bit? Good, because that’s the story of Connor Hawke, the boy who would grow up to become the Green Arrow.
Connor Hawke is the son of Sandra “Moonday” Hawke and Oliver Queen. Moonday and Oliver met while in college and had a brief fling with one another. That brief fling would result in Moonday becoming pregnant. Moonday would track down Oliver and inform him of her pregnancy. Oliver refused to believe Moonday and offered her money to go away. Please note, this all occurred prior to all of the life-changing events that would turn Oliver into the vigilante Green Arrow, and as you can see, he was a total @$$hole in those days. Months after this interaction between Moonday and Queen, a green-eyed, blonde haired, bronze skinned Connor Hawke (he is mixed with Korean, Black, and Caucasian) was born into the world.
Hawke was an unruly child growing up; described as having a volatile temper and continuously getting into fights. His mother, Moonday, hoped to sate this anger inside of him by informing him that his father was indeed Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow; something she had figured out years prior. She was right, this did help to an extent; Connor began reading everything he could about his father from business exploits to Queen’s vigilantism. However, Connor continued to have problems in school. Eventually, Moonday decided that Connor should continue his studies at a monastery and Connor was in agreement. As faith would have it, after years of studying, both intellectually and physically, a new guest arrived at the monastery: Oliver Queen. The two of them, Queen and Hawke, bonded with Hawke being fully aware of the connection between the pair and Queen being oblivious. After a time, Queen offered Hawke the opportunity for them to work together as a crime-fighting duo; Hawke would gladly accept. Eventually, the father-son connection would be revealed, but before the two could really sort anything out, Oliver died. This would cause Connor to pick up where his father left off, officially becoming the new Green Arrow.
